Science has shown that exercising your brain can make it work more efficiently. Brain Games #2: Lower Your Brain Age in Minutes a Day is packed with mental challenges and puzzles that can keep your mind young and fit. The book, part of the popular Brain Games series, was produced under the guidance of Dr. Elkhonon Goldberg, a renowned professor of neurology.brbrJust as no single exercise machine can give you a full workout, no one type of mental challenge or puzzle will fully exercise your brain. Puzzles of different types exercise different parts of the brain and can enhance these cognitive functions:br Analysisbr Attentionbr Computationbr Creative thinkingbr General knowledgebr Languagebr Logicbr Planningbr Spatial reasoningbr Spatial visualizationbr Visual searchbrbrBrain Games #2 includes the following types of mental challenges and puzzles for full cognitive workouts:br Anagramsbr Crosswordsbr Cryptogramsbr Drawing exercisesbr Language puzzlesbr Math puzzlesbr Mazesbr Observation and perspective puzzlesbr Sequencing gamesbr Visual logic puzzlesbr Word searchesbrbrThe mental challenges and puzzles in Brain Games #2 get more difficult as you work through the book, and self-assessment quizzes help you gauge your progress. An Introduction To The Mathematical Theory Of Dynamic Materials (advan

February 15, 2011 Posted by

From the reviews:pThe author introduces the concept of dynamic or time-dependent materials in mechanical and electromagnetic context in order to study varying environmental conditions and changing properties, structures or compositions of materials both in space and time. a ] In total, the monograph seems to be a pioneering step in establishing the mathematical theory of dynamic materials, and without chapter problems, computer programs and design projects, which is desirable for normal classroom use, it may basically be of interest to researchers and engineers. (M. Cengiz DAkmeci, Zentralblatt MATH, Vol. 1125 (2), 2008)pLurie proposes to consider in a dynamical framework materials that present inhomogeneties in both space and time. a ] an introduction to a field of continuum physics that may find unexpected developments in some of the newly designed materials that involve small sizes and short wavelength dynamical phenomena. a ] It is highly recommended to all those wondering what is new in the field. It should also open new horizons to most of its readers. (GA(c)rard A. Maugin, Mathematical Reviews, Issue 2008 b)This book gives a mathematical treatment of a novel concept in material science that characterizes the properties of dynamic materialsa that is, material substances whose properties are variable in space and time. Unlike conventional composites that are often found in nature, dynamic materials are mostly the products of modern technology developed to maintain the most effective control over dynamic processes. These materials have diverse applications: tunable left-handed dielectrics, optical pumping with high-energy pulse compression, and electromagnetic stealth technology, to name a few. Of special significance is the participation of dynamic materials in almost every optimal material design in dynamics.pThe book discusses some general features of dynamic materials as thermodynamically open systems; it gives their adequate tensor description in@45Â?(ö ¾Û€

After passing through the Gate of the Four Arithmetic Operations unharmed, Jimmy and his pals are ambushed at the Gate of the Square Root as they try to rescue their friend Alice. Then they remember root functions, and cover the dizzying, continuous array of numbers with root symbols. The numbers immediately quiet down. After escaping from the Gate of the Square Root, the group travels through a one-dimensional world (dots and lines), a two-dimensional world (sides), and a three-dimensional world (figures). They realize the principle of figures, but get shut in a three-dimensional pyramid by mistake. Will they ever be able to rescue Alice?

It”s not by counting the flies on the ceiling that one becomes a star in math… And one must be really resourceful to avoid the beckoning finger of the teacher and the humiliation of the dunce cap! And Leonie, who still detests copiers… So, Ducoboo invents the answers that he can”t steal from his neighbour. He has cause to regret doing so because, although very fertile, his imagination plays tricks on him and he often ends up ”In the Corner”! The Series champions valuse such as friendship and the right to be different, and tackles subjects such as boy-girl and parent-child relationships.
